As a business owner myself, I know firsthand Montana is a great place for entrepreneurs. Like many small businesses, our restaurant in Butte is family owned and operated. When my husband was laid up after surgery, my daughter stepped in to keep the place running. We pride ourselves on not only running a business, but building a community, too. I know we’re not alone in this, as business owners in every corner of the state play big role in building our communities.

Montana Department of Commerce Celebrates 8th Anniversary of MTHousingSearch.com

The website gives landlords a place to advertise properties at no cost, while helping renters find housing to suit their needs.

With a goal to increase affordable and accessible housing opportunity for all Montanans, the service has grown to more than 8,600 rental options and fields thousands of searches every month.

HELENA, Mont. –Montana’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Rebecca Ziegler has been named the 2017 Montana “State Star,” a national award recognizing outstanding performers from America’s Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC).

There’s no better place to live, work, and play than Montana. Building a successful life here starts with having an affordable and accessible place to call home. Still, for many Montanans finding a stable home can come with barriers. We know families are encountering rising housing costs, a low supply of affordable apartments, and housing choice barriers. Every day our teams here at the Montana Department of Commerce are working to break down these barriers and make access to safe housing affordable and accessible.

Helena SBDC Regional Director Wins 2nd Place at Business Startup Challenge

The SBDC would like to congratulate Helena Regional Director Brandon Orr, hosted by Helena College, for taking home second place at the 28th annual statewide John Ruffatto Business Startup Challenge last week. His business, Ryffit, creates custom sheet music books, and Orr plans to leverage YouTube influencers with large audiences and generate revenue for both parties through the books. Orr beat out 14 other competitors for the second place win of $7,500, only surpassed by Cowboy Cricket Farms, SBDC Shark Tank second place winner in March.

The Montana Department of Commerce is recognizing National Community Development Week, April 17-22, by celebrating the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

Helena Renovation Project Keeps 118 Affordable, Accessible Apartments Available to Low-Income Seniors

Project creates 73 jobs, generates $6 million in wages

Thanks to a partnership among private and public organizations, 118 affordable and accessible Helena apartments have been fully renovated and will remain available for the next 45 years to low-income seniors and those with a disability.
