Commerce Awards Funding to 3 Montana Communities to Develop New Affordable Housing

Tuesday, January 29, 2019/Categories: Community Development Division, Community Development Block Grant Program, Montana Housing

Three Montana communities will receive grants through the Montana Department of Commerce’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program to assist with the development of affordable housing.

“We all know every Montanan deserves a safe and affordable place to call home,” Montana Department of Commerce Community Development Division Administrator Jennifer Olson said. “These HOME grants will provide housing for our friends and neighbors across the state, as well as provide hundreds of good-paying jobs for residents of those communities.”

The following communities have received HOME Investment Partnerships Program grants:

  • City of Deer Lodge: $173,270 to construct 21 units of affordable housing.
  • Whitefish, Homeword Inc: $862,307 to construct 38 units of affordable housing.
  • Helena, Rocky Mountain Development Council: $750,000 to construct 85 units of affordable housing.

The HOME Investment Partnerships Program is the largest federal block grant designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. Montana’s allocation of HOME funds is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Montana Department of Commerce grants these funds to help local governments respond to the need for adequate, affordable housing for qualified individuals, families, and seniors.
