MONTANA – Governor Steve Bullock today joined community leaders at the Roxy Theater in Missoula to award $167,605 in tourism infrastructure and community development block grant funding for the restoration of Missoula’s historic movie theater.

Investing in our downtown neighborhoods will continue to build vibrant community gathering spots that entice visitors and engage residents,” Governor Bullock said. “The Roxy Theater’s restoration project will create jobs, fuel downtown growth, and ensure the Missoula landmark is around for future generations to enjoy.

The Roxy’s use of state grant funding, local foundation, and private donor support will allow the theater to restore its façade and signage, and open an on-street ticket booth. The theater has 18 year-round full-and-part-time employees, and seven seasonal positions. The restoration is expected to increase visitation by up to 20 percent in the first year.

The Roxy is a historic asset in Montana that requires preservation and ongoing investment,” said Executive Director Mike Steinberg. “Our restoration effort emphasizes the Roxy’s dedication to making Montana a unique destination that will serve audiences of all ages.

The Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development markets Montana’s spectacular unspoiled nature, vibrant and charming small towns, breathtaking experiences, relaxing hospitality, and competitive business climate to promote the state as a place to visit and do business.
