Lt. Governor Mike Cooney on Monday night joined attendees of the Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation to congratulate finalists and winners of the 2018 Montana Tourism Awards.

The awards celebrate the outstanding work of the communities, businesses, organizations and people who strengthen Montana's tourism industry and thereby contribute to maximizing its economic impact for Montana residents.

“Tourism is one of Montana’s leading industries, and although the landscape speaks for itself, much of the industry’s success is because of the men and women across the state who are working hard to develop tourism experiences, provide visitor services, and promote this special place,” said Lt. Gov. Cooney. “This is an opportunity to celebrate their work and their many successes.”

Nominations were open to the public, and judges comprising representatives from every region of the state chose the finalists and winners. To see the nominations for the finalists, visit:

  • Marketing Campaign of the Year: Visit Billings -- "My Amazing Place" Video Campaign
  • Event of the Year: Red Ants Pants Music Festival
  • Heritage and Cultural Tourism Award: Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center
  • Film Friendly Community: Virginia City/Dillon for "The Ballad of Lefty Brown" 
  • Community of the Year: Ovando 
  • Tourism Ambassador: Edward DesRosier 

The Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation continues in Big Sky on Tuesday morning with a feature presentation by the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development on how science and creativity come together to make the state’s tourism marketing campaigns a success.
