Department of Commerce Awards $1.5 Million of Big Sky Film Grant Funding to 33 Filmed-in-Montana Productions

Filming in Montana HELENA – The Montana Department of Commerce (Commerce) announced today that 33 film creations will share $1.5 million of grant funding to film on-location productions across the state. The grant funding is awarded through the Montana Film Office’s Big Sky Film Grant (BSFG) program.

“Big Sky Film Grants have proven to benefit Montana’s economy,” said Scott Osterman, Director of the Montana Department of Commerce. “Our state’s investment in Montana based film productions has helped support 840 Montana jobs, paying $41.5 million in payroll to Montanans. These are contractors, trades men and women, and other local service providers all across Montana.”

The 33 Big Sky Film Grant recipients announced today have a total estimated production cost of more than $131 million and expect that they will spend an estimated $74 million in Montana.

The grants are awarded to eligible production projects in three different categories: Feature Film and TV, Resident Filmmaker, and Short-Form Content. The following projects have been approved to receive Big Sky Film Grant funding:

Feature Film and Television Grants
Resident Filmmaker Grants
Short-Form Content Grants
Since the BSFG program started in 2013, more than 275 film projects have received over $9 million of grant funding to assist with production for those projects.
