Forsyth and Sidney Join Commerce’s Montana Main Street Program

Forsyth Montana HELENA - The Montana Department of Commerce announced today that Forsyth and Sidney have been accepted as members of its Montana Main Street Program. This program helps Montana communities strengthen and preserve historic downtown commercial districts by supporting economic development, urban revitalization, and historic preservation through long-range planning, organization, design, and promotion.

“Forsyth and Sidney will now have access to resources to help build their own local Montana Main Street programs as well as help them make downtown improvements to advance local community development objectives," Commerce Director Scott Osterman said. “We look forward to working with these two new members as local leaders identify projects to improve the economic, historic, and cultural vitality in their towns and their unique downtown districts.”

Membership in the Main Street Program provides communities access to Main Street grant funding, technical assistance, community networking, and resources offered through the national Main Street America program to revitalize and promote downtown commercial districts.

“With a renewed interest in our city, community improvements have been re-established to create a new rebranding effort to better promote the great offerings here in the city of Forsyth,” Mayor Dennis Kopitzke said. “Designs are starting to take shape associated with storefront improvement, signage, landscaping, merchandising, as well as many promotional ideas. This effort, through the Montana Main Street Program, will help improve the promotion of Forsyth’s great assets, help retain existing businesses, and create new business opportunities.”

Established in 2005, the Montana Main Street Program, as a National Main Street Center Coordinating Program, is part of a grassroots network of communities across the country committed to creating high-quality places and building stronger communities through historic preservation-based economic development. With the addition of Forsyth and Sidney, there are now 37 Montana Main Street Program communities.
