Research and Information Services within the Montana Department of Commerce partners with people, agencies, and organizations throughout the state, nation and globe to promote economic opportunity and enhance our understanding of the people and economy of the State of Montana. The Census and Economic Information Center (CEIC) provides current, easily accessible, and thorough economic and demographic analysis, data, maps, and expert assistance to meet the needs and requests of the people in the State of Montana. CEIC was established by legislation in 1981 Montana Code Annotated §90-1-109.
The Census and Economic Information Center is the State of Montana representative to the U.S. Census Bureau Sate Data Center (SDC) network and the primary contact for statistical geographic boundaries to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Industry Development Program (IDP) works to identify and facilitate investment in projects that capitalize on the competitive and comparative business advantages Montana offers. The Tourism Research program provides expertise in tourism data research. We work closely with Tourism and Marketing in the Montana Department of Commerce, the Institute of Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR) at the University of Montana and non-profit Destination Marketing Organizations (DMO) throughout the state to provide best in class tourism data resources.
