Bozeman Company Named 2023 Montana Exporter of the Year
Montana Department of Commerce Director Paul Green is scheduled to present the award to Bridger Photonics at the May 22 Montana World Trade Center’s World Trade & Investment Day in Bozeman. A second celebration is planned for May 23 at Bridger Photonics’ facility in Bozeman.
“Whether we're shipping wheat to Japan, coal to Korea or optics to Canada, international exports add to and diversify Montana's economic base,” said Paul Green, Director of the Montana Department of Commerce. “We know that companies who sell outside the U.S. are more likely to use excess manufacturing capacity, to develop new technologies and to limit the risk of domestic economic downturns and seasonal slumps. Commerce congratulates Bridger Photonics and thanks this outstanding company for its contribution to Montana's economy.”
“The Montana DEC is happy to recognize a growing exporter in our state, Bridger Photonics,” said BD Erickson, Montana DEC Chair. “Its contribution to Montana’s international sales continues to grow, adding to our trade relationship with our largest trading partner, Canada. Bridger Photonics is part of Montana’s growing photonics business cluster, acknowledged as one of the most prestigious in the world.”
Noted as one of the fastest growing companies in Montana, Bridger Photonics is a leader in aerial methane detection for the oil and natural gas industry. It manufactures proprietary Gas Mapping LiDAR (GML) laser sensors and offers cutting-edge emissions data analytics solutions. The GML sensors are attached to small aircraft and flown over oil and gas infrastructure to detect, quantify and pinpoint methane emissions. Emissions reductions are important due to the strong global warming potential of methane, and oil and gas sources present relatively accessible mitigation opportunities. The company’s aerial deployment presents significant efficiency improvements for oil and gas operators, allowing hundreds of production facilities or hundreds of miles of pipeline to be scanned in a single day. Bridger Photonics’ team then analyzes the data captured and provides methane gas plume imagery to operators, along with information on the emission rate, what type of equipment is emitting and other valuable operational information. Advanced analytics leverage the gathered data to aid operators in systematically managing their assets and proactively reducing emissions.
Additionally, Bridger Photonics is a notable employer in Bozeman, currently employing 130 people. Many are alumni of Montana colleges and universities, which serve as robust talent pipelines for the company’s expansion. Bridger Photonics has undergone tremendous growth, with exports surpassing tens of millions. Most of its product value is added in Montana; its export growth over the past several years has primarily been through exports to other parts of the United States, Canada and recently to South America and Australia.
“We are incredibly honored to receive the Montana Exporter of the Year Award. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of our entire team. Our success is a result of the support and talent that exists in our state, and we’re excited to continue reducing methane emissions and solving one of the greatest challenges of our time,” said Pete Roos, Bridger Photonics CEO.
