Census 2030 Redistricting Data Program
The Redistricting Data Program within the U.S. Census Bureau provides states the opportunity to delineate voting districts and to suggest block boundaries for use in the 2030 Census redistricting data tabulations (Redistricting Data - Public Law 94-1717 Summary File). The Census and Economic Information Center within the Montana Department of Commerce is the state-appointed non-partisan liaison who serves as the Census Bureau’s point of contact throughout all phases of the program. In this capacity, we submit census block boundary suggestions, voting districts, congressional districts and state legislative districts to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Montana Department of Commerce does not not define boundaries. Voting district boundaries are defined by local government representatives and compiled by the Montana Secretary of State and the Montana State Library. Congressional and state legislative districts are drawn by the Montana Districting and Apportionment Commission and compiled by the Montana Legislative Services Division.
