The Microbusiness Finance Program administers funding for certified microbusiness development corporations in Montana. These certified MBDCs work with businesses that have fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees and gross annual revenues under $1 million.
Qualifying Montana-based businesses can apply for a microbusiness loan by contacting a certified MBDC. Certified MBDCs offer loans up to $100,000 to qualified microbusinesses, deliver training and technical assistance and underwrite and service their microloan portfolios.
Since the inception of the MBFP in 1991, 1,312 loans have been made across the state, totaling over $33.6 million and creating or retaining approximately 3,396 jobs.
A nonprofit corporation interested in becoming a certified MBDC should contact program staff for further details. To find out more about the legislative intent of the program, see 17-6-401 though 17-6-411, MCA, for the Microbusiness Development Act. To learn more about the requirements to become an MBDC, see Administrative Rules of Montana 8.99.401 through 8.99.405 and 8.99.501 through 8.99.511 to review the current administrative rules for the MBFP.
