Planning activities are in full swing for the 2026 Montana Housing Partnership Conference. Registration for the conference opened on Feb. 23, with early bird pricing through April 1. This year’s event will take place May 18-20 at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort in Anaconda. The Montana Department of Commerce and the administratively attached Montana Board of Housing both support and sponsor the event. Representatives from Commerce and the MBOH will be in attendance.

“The steering committee is excited to bring the wealth of content we’ve been working on with partners across the state and nationally to our attendees this year,” said Cheryl Cohen, MBOH director and administrator of Commerce’s Housing Division. “The housing professionals of the Montana Housing Partnership look forward to this opportunity to learn from each other and continually improve how we address affordable housing needs in our state.”

Conference attendees include individuals from affordable housing organizations, housing development companies, government agencies and other stakeholders. At last year’s conference in Billings, representatives from Commerce and NeighborWorks Montana presented lifetime achievement awards to Montana’s affordable housing champions Bob Gauthier, Jeff Rupp, Jim McGrath and Pat Melby.

This year’s conference has an excellent keynote speaker lineup, including Ralph Perrey, executive director with the Tennessee Housing Development Agency. Perrey’s talk, “Building the Housing America Needs,” will examine which resources and policies are needed to make it easier to build homes that are affordable for moderate- and middle-income families across the country.

The conference will highlight other state agencies’ programs supporting affordable housing development and resident support services. Attendees will have the option of touring affordable housing developments in Anaconda and Butte; staying at Fairmont to join a NeighborWorks America workshop on negotiations; or attending a workshop on homelessness and supportive housing.
