Commerce Allocates Planning Grants to 14 Economic Development Organizations

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Commerce announced today that 14 Montana communities will share more than $500,000 of grant funding to support vital planning that can help create vision and promote innovation for businesses in Montana. The funding is through Commerce’s Opportunities in Rural Economies Planning Grant Program.
“Commerce’s ORE Planning Grants create good-paying jobs, promote long-term economic growth, retain and expand existing businesses and encourage workforce development for Montana residents,” said Commerce Director Marta Bertoglio.
The following economic development organizations will receive ORE Planning Grant funding:
Virginia City Schoolhouse Foundation President James Jarvis said, “On behalf of the Virginia City Schoolhouse Foundation, we express our gratitude for the ORE Planning Grant recently awarded to our renovation project. With this support, architectural and economic development consultants have been retained to prepare a preliminary architectural report and economic impact assessment to guide on-going fundraising and renovation activities.”

The following economic development organizations will receive ORE Planning Grant funding:
- 41 Grains in Circle will receive $30,000 for a feasibility study.
- Cardwell Campground, LLC in Cardwell will receive $17,000 to prepare engineering plans and a survey for expansion.
- Crazy Creek Products, LLC in Red Lodge will receive $15,000 to have an architectural and structural engineering review for the expansion of the current warehouse facility.
- Eastern Plains Economic Development Corporation in Glendive will receive $11,000 to prepare a masterplan for renovating and upgrading Gregg Park.
- Great Falls Development Authority, Inc. in Great Falls will receive $30,000 to prepare a feasibility study for a community impact investment fund.
- Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc. in Butte will receive funding for the following:
- $25,000 to prepare a geotechnical feasibility study for a new AWARE location;
- $25,000 to prepare a feasibility study for the Our Lady of The Rockies gondola project;
- $50,000 to prepare engineering plans for Fort + Home, LLC’s Platinum and Wyoming Street corridor; and
- $35,000 to prepare a feasibility study for a tech hub in Uptown Butte.
- Homeword, Inc. in Missoula will receive $13,823 to prepare a capital needs assessment to help plan and implement critical repairs at Ouellette Place.
- Hudson Wilson Enterprises, Inc. in Belgrade will receive $50,000 to prepare a feasibility study for a family entertainment center and flex space suites.
- Living Independently for Today and Tomorrow in Billings will receive $10,982 to prepare professional planning and design components of the RideWell Rural Transportation Facility.
- Montana Business Assistance Connection, Inc. in Helena will receive $33,334 to prepare a master plan for Wheatland CDP public water supply.
- Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation, Inc. in Kalispell will receive $50,000 to prepare a preliminary architectural report for Mountain Brook Schoolhouse.
- Ravalli County Economic Development Authority in Hamilton will receive $50,000 to prepare construction and engineering plans for sewer lines at Ravalli County Airport.
- Snowy Mountain Development Corporation in Lewistown will receive $50,000 to prepare a preliminary engineering report for an incubator campus.
- The Grocery Store, LLC in Scobey will receive $5,000 to prepare a comprehensive market study for the development of a new grocery store. This award is contingent on registering with the Montana Secretary of State’s Office before execution of the contract.
