Communities interested in the MMS Program should reference the readiness checklist. A community must be actively pursuing downtown revitalization, working with partner organizations and outlining a commitment to long- and short-term planning. Interested communities are dedicated to improving quality of life through place-based economic development and community preservation. Once accepted to MMS, communities join a collective movement among local partners and grassroots leaders.
Applicants understand that they are part of a larger national network (Main Street America) that leads an inclusive, impact-driven movement dedicated to reenergizing and strengthening historic downtowns and commercial districts. This collective movement, with local partners and grassroots leaders, means a community shares in the prosperity of resilient economies, which in turn improves quality of life through place-based economic development and community preservation in a downtown.
Montana Main Street members are limited to 40. Thus, it is important to contact the Main Street coordinator to confirm whether the program is accepting applications.
Membership applications are reviewed annually in the spring and communities are selected prior to the next calendar year. Submitted applications and supporting materials will be evaluated by a review committee. Acceptance of the MMS Program is competitive and based on available openings and community preparedness. MMS staff are available to assist interested communities throughout the application process and can provide guidance regarding the re-application process to those communities not accepted into the program.
