The Montana Heritage Commission preserves and manages historic resources in Virginia City, Nevada City and Reeder's Alley, promoting the appreciation of Montana's history through high-quality visitor experiences. The commission serves as a steward for these historic sites, ensuring their preservation, interpretation and sustainable operation for the benefit and enjoyment of all.
The MHC manages properties in Helena, Virginia City and Nevada City, Montana. Each of our properties is unique, and most have historic features that require careful preservation. The U.S. Department of the Interior's historic preservation standards guide our decision-making process regarding the restoration, preservation and rehabilitation of any physical structures.

With the passage of HB 680, the Montana Heritage Commission is authorized to offer long-term leases, up to 99 years, for properties under its management to entities making substantial capital investments to the property.
